Croutons are the very definition of the word ‘finger food.’ They can be eaten individually as snacks or they could be sprinkled over your salads and vegetables to give them that extra crunch. And of course we could always just eat them with soup. You get a much better result if you stick to homemade croutons rather than relying on store bought. With homemade croutons you can experiment with the recipe, tweaking it as you wish and finding the right taste. This flexibility of croutons also makes them a great product that appeals to everyone as the recipe can be adapted to suit anyone’s tastes. Here are 6 crouton types that would win over even your mother-in-law.

Cheesy Croutons

To make cheesy croutons you begin by toasting bread on one side. Mix grated cheese and oil together and spread it on the untoasted slices of bread on both sides. Place the bread slices in the oven and let it bake for half an hour. Cut it up into small crouton shaped pieces and serve with soup or as a snack.

Butter Garlic Croutons

Begin by melting butter in a pan add garlic and let it sautee for one minute. Add bread cubes to this and toss it to coat the bread. Remove the bread from the pan and let it bake for 15 minutes. Your butter garlic croutons are now ready to eat.

Honey Fried Croutons

Cut out crouton sized pieces from 2 slices of bread. Heat ghee in a deep skillet and add the crouton shaped bread. Fry it until it is crispy. Remove the croutons and drain them on paper towels to drain the excess oil. Pour the ghee out of the skillet, leave only a single tablespoon worth. Add honey and heat it. Add the croutons and onion seeds and toss the bread to mix it evenly. Your sweet and crunchy honey fried croutons are now ready to be enjoyed.
