Secret sauce recipes that pair well with anything

FEBRUARY 17, 2020

Kids and teenagers can be fussy eaters. Kids generally choose better tasting foods over foods that would give them essential nutrients. The only way to get kids to eat healthy is by sneaking in some of their favourite ingredients into the recipe. An easy way to do this is to prepare tasty sauces and serve them along with healthy snacks! Here are some secret sauce recipes to help you make every meal tasty and healthy.

Peanut sauce

Ingredients required:

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tsp red curry paste
  • 3 tbsp peanuts
  • ¾ tbsp sugar
  • Salt to taste

Begin your peanut sauce preparation by skinning and roasting peanuts and then crushing them with a mortar and pestle. Heat the cup of coconut milk and add the smashed peanuts on top. Allow the milk to boil. Add sugar and red curry paste to the boiling mixture. Remember to keep stirring regularly to ensure that it all mixes well. Season with salt for taste. Once the sauce has mixed well you can take it off the heat and let it cool. The sauce will thicken once it is taken off the gas and give you your desired consistency.

Garlicky Tahini

Ingredients required:

  • 8 tbsp tahini sauce
  • 4 cloves of chopped garlic
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 squeezed lemon
  • Salt to taste

Add tahini paste, chopped garlic, salt water, olive oil and the juice from an entire squeezed lemon into a blender. Blend these ingredients together until you reach your desired consistency. Sprinkle the sauce with parsley and serve with baked homemade croutons or any other side dish of your choice.

Schezwan sauce

Ingredients required:

  • ¼ cup sesame oil
  • 4 whole red peppers
  • 4 finely chopped onions
  • 1 tbsp decloved garlic
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp soya sauce
  • 1 tsp chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation for homemade schezwan sauce begins by deseeding and soaking whole red peppers in a bowl of hot water for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes have passed, add cornflour and water to a bowl and mix it until the corn flour turns into a paste. Add the soaked chillies, cornflour paste, chopped onions, decloved garlic and ginger into a blender. Blend these ingredients together into a thick paste and put it aside. Heat oil in a pan. Pour the blended paste onto the pan and allow it to boil. Once the mixture has boiled, lower the heat and add chilli powder, vinegar, soya sauce, chilli sauce and salt. Cook the sauce on the pan ensuring that every ingredient has mixed well and the sauce presents a uniform consistency. Serve your sauce along with a side dish of your choice.

Spaghettis, burgers and salads are all dishes that would be incomplete without the perfect accompanying sauce. Sauces may not always be the center of attention, but far too many recipes would lack the right punch without them. Pair your baked bhakarwadi with peanut sauce and create complementary pairings that make every snack time unforgettable!
