Concerned about what snacks to include on a pregnancy diet?

It’s around 3 pm, you’re done with lunch but somehow you’re still hungry. Well, pregnancy cravings aren’t famous for nothing. Eating for two is the excuse you make but doctor’s these days are getting stricter about maintaining a steady, healthy weight. So how will you manage to satisfy these cravings and what should you include in this pregnancy diet?

Eating enough to keep you and your little one full is of utmost importance. So starving yourself is never the option. Snack all you want but watch what you’re eating. Your snack is supposed to have the right blend of nutrients and taste. While being calorie conscious it can’t be all health and no flavor.

Here is a list of snacks you can eat without going on a guilt trip :

1. Spinach and cheese toasties

A substantial snack that you can make in a jiffy is the best no fuss snack anybody can  ask for.  All you need to do is blend some blanched spinach leaves with a clove of garlic, some basil leaves, pine nuts, olive oil and salt to make a rich in iron pesto sauce. Spread it on DIP Baked Pita Chips or multigrain toast. Add some mozzarella cheese on top and bake till the cheese is melted and gooey on top.

Cooked Spinach has high levels of folate and iron and is a great source of calcium and Mozzarella cheese is high in calcium and protein. This Macro rich snack will look after your baby’s over all growth and immunity, while making you a stronger mama!

2. Chicken and Greek Yoghurt Canapes

During pregnancy, you need all the protein you can get. And chicken offers the perfect solution to your protein and iron needs.

All you need is half a cup of boiled and shredded chicken breast, 3 tbps of greek yoghurt, 3 tbs chopped onions and salt and pepper for seasoning.

Mix all the ingredients together and fill in DIP Canapes for the perfect finger food.

Greek Yogurt adds a good punch of probiotics, calcium and protein to your snack, making this small snack a protein powerhouse for you and your baby.

3. Chocolate Nice-cream

You don’t know what real struggle is until you’re pregnant and craving chocolate! Chocolate has the power to make everything better, and if it’s in the form of ice cream, BINGO!

We’ve found a super healthy 2 recipe ice cream for you, which can be made in a jiffy and eaten absolutely guilt free!

Take some over ripe bananas and freeze them. When you crave that ice cream – take them out of the freezer and blend with unsweetened cocoa powder until it resembles the texture of ice cream. Spoon the mixture out and sprinkle in some dark chocolate chips. Store it in the freezer for a few hours. Voila! Your healthy homemade ice cream is ready.

This recipe is super healthy since it contains antioxidant rich chocolate which is great for you as well as the baby. Bananas are a rich source of potassium and will help you fight of pregnancy fatigue, it also helps with nausea.

4. Melon Juice

The Summers are here and so is the heat, which is why your body needs all the fluid it can get to stay hydrated. And melons contain 92 percent water. So find your favorite melon, spritz some lime in a blender, add ice and water and blend till your yum juice is ready!
