How to prevent overeating on vacations

AUGUST 06, 2019

Vacations are a time for relaxing and enjoying cocktails on the beach. On vacation it becomes easy to eat without thinking about what you are eating and how much. Here are some simple tips to keep you away from an unhealthy food binge and stick to healthy snacks even on vacation.

  • Stay hydrated

You may find it easy to avoid crispy tortilla chips and decadent cakes while on holiday but what about a cold, refreshing soda on a hot day? To stay hydrated on vacation you should carry a bottle of water with you at all times. Drinking water regularly keeps your stomach feeling full for longer and helps you stay away from calorie-filled drinks. Other benefits include keeping fatigue away and improving digestion.

  • Engage in physical activity

A vacation is all about breaking out of everyday habits and being more spontaneous. Telling friends about the time you went rock climbing is better than telling them about how you stayed in your room and ate potato chips all day! Add physical activities to your itinerary and give your heart a good workout. You don’t need to add a difficult task to make it count. You can simply go sightseeing through the city on a bicycle or take a trek through the woods. Even a swim in your hotel pool can be a fun and healthy activity to add to your vacation plans.

  • Pack your own snacks

Local delicacies are a difficult temptation to resist on holiday. The only way to not think about the food that you can get outside your hotel room is by thinking about the food that you carried with you. Carry healthy and tasty snacks, like the baked bhakarwadi and baked masala sticks from DIP Foods along with you on vacation. Bringing snacks with you on your vacation allows you to munch on foods when you are hungry. Now when you go out into the market you will only try local foods that you have heard about or those that come highly recommended instead of trying a bit of everything.

On vacation, your primary goal is to have a good time. Instead of getting upset over that one extra laddu that you ate, learn to forgive yourself and take it easy for a few days. Your body has mechanisms in place to keep your weight at an acceptable range at all times. Overeating once or twice is not an issue as your body can even speed up your metabolism to be able to digest the extra food and maintain a stable weight. This translates to, “You don’t need to count each and every calorie on vacation!” Our recommendation is to keep the above tips in mind and maintain a healthy balance between the two without having to think about it.
